Supporting Communities: Nurturing Through Healing Practices

    ABOUT NHOCOUR PROGRAMS

Our Name Emphasizes Our Goals

Lawelawe Means “to Serve” in Hawaiian

Nonprofit Native Hawaiian Organization Charity (NHOC) and our Lawelawe subsidiaries are dedicated to improving lives in underserved Native Hawaiian communities.

How do we do this?

By preserving traditional Native Hawaiian cultural knowledge and healing practices, and leading communities into self-determination by providing education and training in this modern world.

We are a council of kahuna la’au lapa’au – recognized under State law as masters in traditional Hawaiian healing arts and practices. We address modern challenges through programs of individual health, family governance, financial sustainability, and spiritual self-determination – offering activities and training in agriculture, genealogy, world history, physiology, nutrition, finance, accounting, and law.

Mission & Wisdom

We are committed to uplifting Native Hawaiian communities through empowering programs, strong partnerships, and meaningful opportunities for involvement. Our mission is to help individuals and families thrive physically, spiritually, and economically. We envision vibrant, financially strong Native Hawaiian communities, united in sustaining healthy families and guided by physical and spiritual self-determination.

Values (waiwai)

Our work is grounded in core values that shape everything we do. We believe in collaboration, building strong partnerships that support shared growth and collective progress.

pule (Prayer)

The constant communication and personal relationship with God in humility. The main tool of lapa’au.

ho’omakaukau (Preparation & Dicipline)

1) To develop a level of excellence in one’s spirit, physical self, character and personal disciplines such as respect, integrity and honesty, the goal of which is to increase over time. 2) The preparation of medicine using priestly protocols.

ho’olauna i ka mea maika’i (Embracing Good)

The unconditional self-sacrifice of providing and receiving charity to introduce things that are good.

ho’olohe (Deep Listening)

Ability to listen with the spirit to gain divine inspiration and personal revelation to bring forth a deeper sense of awareness.

akahai (Humility)

Living with humility so we are able to continually learn and have patience for the betterment of all things considered.

Our Efforts to Strengthen Hawaiian Communities

It is our kuleana or responsibility to preserve ancient medicinal healing traditions passed down through our council of Native Hawaiian master healers that otherwise would be lost. We share social and economic programs that nurture personal well-being and provide paths to business and financial success.

Our goal is to establish cultural knowledge and pride in healthy and thriving native Hawaiian communities through traditional medicinal healthcare and training in modern financial markets.

“e ho’onani i ke akua a mahalo i na kūpuna”

In fulfilling this kuleana we give all glory to God and thanks to our ancestors.

Our Cherished Wisdom Keepers

NHOC was founded with a passion to keep alive the vanishing practice of traditional Hawaiian medicine. We are a kūpuna council organized under state law as certified Native Hawaiian practitioners in ancient medicine. La’au lapa’au is a sacred Native Hawaiian traditional high priestly practice handed down unbroken through priestly genealogy ordained by Ke ākua as authorized agents by His hand on this ‘āina for eternal spiritual healing of the individual’s will, soul, spirit, mind, body, and heart.
